My career

I worked as a researcher for 19 years and in academia for thirteen of those, including at two Russel Group universities. During this time:

  • I delivered over 250 hours of teaching to under-graduates, Masters and PhD students.
  • I delivered writing and developmental workshops to post-graduate students.
  • I published and co-authored articles and book chapters, including repeat chapters in Criminology published by Oxford University Press, the British Journal of Criminology, and the Conversation

I started proofreading in 2014 whilst I was doing a PhD at the University of Leeds. It started as a way to help other students, but I quickly realised that I had a good temperament for it - I have an eye for detail and enjoy working methodically.

After my PhD I continued my career as a researcher but kept on developing my proofreading skills. As my skills grew, I developed a passion for working with and helping clients. In 2019 I graduated with distinction with a Diploma in Proofreading and Editing from the College of Media and Publishing. In 2020 I was ready to launch a full-time career and founded easywrite.co.uk to work with writers, publishers and businesses, and was granted Associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders. I have proofread books, academic articles, PhDs and Master's dissertations, and a wide range of reports, including research reports and documentation for local government agencies. I have worked with students in a wide range of disciplines, from  law and social sciences to biological sciences, engineering and environmental studies.

I remain active and engaged with the academic community and continue to write and deliver papers. I recently started a blog, which you can read here.

I guarantee complete discretion and confidentiality with regards to any work I do. I have a safe storage certificate from the UK Data Service, and provide, on request, safe, secure and free storage for any document I work on for up to six months.

Please feel free to explore my website, and to contact me if you have any questions.
